NetQual

NetQual is a suite of QoS systems for testing, monitoring and analysis of quality of service on packet and circuit switched networks. NetQual is fully transparent to the network technology in use and provides accurate end-to-end Speech, Data and Video testing capability on both fixed and mobile networks. This central server based solution uses distributed probes to collect data and stores it in its central database for retrieval, assessment and reporting.

Thanks to its modular and flexible architecture, NetQual is the optimal solution for network-wide monitoring as well as point-to-point analysis. Via the remote controllable user interface, tests can be defined and activated directly from each of its measurement probes. These probes also offer non-intrusive speech quality assessment allowing the quality of any transmitted speech signal to be measured on a live connection.

NetQual is a "triple play" solution that supports both automated and direct user controlled point-to-point measurements for Speech, Data and Video. With data test options such as HTTP, FTP, UDP, Email, SMS and MMS, NetQual supports testing of Internet/Intranet service accessibility and performance at both static and mobile locations. While its capability to handle Multimedia (video streaming and video telephony) allows quality assessment (MOS values) combined with information such as block distortion, blurring, edge busyness, jerkiness, noise and video/audio synchronization.

True End-to-End quality assessment is provided through NetQual's IP, PSTN and ISDN (PRI & BRI) interface capabilities as well as connectivity to 2G, 2.5G and 3G mobile terminals thus enabling true end-to-end measurement covering all possible combination of networks and technology. Thanks to its flexible interfacing capabilities, including the use of commercial mobile and IP terminals, NetQual is able to assess the true quality from the perspective of the end-users.

Flexibility in configuration & applications

Thanks to its modular and flexible architecture, NetQual is the optimal solution for both network-wide monitoring as well as point-to-point testing. For network-wide monitoring, the NetQual Test Manager and the NetQual Database/Processing system are configured on a central server with multiple NetQual Measurement Probes distributed through out the network. Via directory sharing or via FTP server, all Probes are remotely controlled by the Test Manager. Measurement data is automatically transferred to the Database/Processing system for reporting and detailed analysis.

NetQual also supports direct user controlled point-to-point measurements. Via the Test Managers user interface, tests can be defined and activated directly from the measurement probes. The Database/Processing system allows direct viewing and analysis of the measurement data.

True end-to-end quality assessment

NetQual provides IP, PSTN and ISDN (PRI & BRI) interface capability as well as connectivity to 2G, 2.5G and 3G mobile terminals thus enabling true end-to-end measurement covering all possible combination of networks and technology. Thanks to its flexible interfacing capabilities, including the use of commercial mobile and IP terminals, NetQual is able to assess the true quality from the perspective of the end-users.

Superior speech quality assessment

An integral part of NetQual, is its ability for Speech Quality Assessment. This capability is enhanced with a number of extra measurements:

  • Silence suppression quality assessment
  • Noise suppression quality assessment
  • Echo and echo canceller quality assessment
  • Double talk quality assessment

Non-intrusive speech quality assessment

A non-intrusive speech quality algorithm is now available, allowing the quality of any transmitted speech signal to be assessed without sending a reference. NetQual can be configured with this non-intrusive speech quality algorithm thus enabling voice quality assessment of any live call, or special test calls made to any type of standard answering/responder station.

Also for data testing

With test options such as HTTP, FTP, UDP, Email, SMS and MMS, NetQual supports testing of Internet/ Intranet service accessibility and performance at both static and mobile locations. Again, thanks to its variety of interfacing options, such services can be tested end-to-end from a mobile subscribers point of view, as well as between Probes located within the fixed core/backbone network.

Video Streaming and Telephony

NetQual is also capable of handling the increased demand for assessing Multimedia quality. An optional algorithm for quality assessment of video streaming and video telephony is available. This allows a reference video sequence to be transmitted across the network under test.

At the receiving end, the transmitted sequence is captured and objectively validated by perceptual comparison with the reference sequence. The output is a related MOS value combined with information such as block distortion, blurring, edge busyness, jerkiness, and noise. Also the related audio and video/audio synchronizationis assessed.

Powerful post-processing

NetQual's Post-processing system, can be configured both as a single user application and as a central database serving multiple post-processing clients. The system, including a powerful set of features for data administration, filtering, analysis, statistics and automatic generation of reports, provides the user with simple and fast access to the information of interest.
